A First Look at the New Baby!

We had our first ultrasound of the new baby on Friday, which means baby's first picture! We were very excited! On the screen it was easier to see, but in the picture it is virtually impossible to detect the difference between baby and yolk sac.....I guess you'll just have to use your imagination :) We were able to see baby's little heart beating away, it was amazing! After the Dr. took a look and said that everything looks great with baby, she decided to change my due date based on baby's measurements. So, my new due date is February 10th. Who knows, this could change again when they do the 20 week ultrasound. In other words, I don't have my heart set on any dates yet. My next appointment is July 15th, so I am able to squeeze in an appointment right before we go back to Oregon then I will follow up with Kaiser from there.

Today Addison went to her 18 month appointment with the new Dr. that we like. Everything was well, Addison is 25lbs (64%) and 33.5 inches (70%). However, we are on another 10 days of a different antibiotic for the ear infection in her right ear. Unfortunately the first antibiotic that she was given, would have been the best choice, but she was allergic. So, now our 4th try at an antibiotic to cure her ear infection! What a nightmare. Poor Addison has been struggling with this for about 2 months now. So, we have our fingers crossed that this one will do it....the only problem is that it is a derivitive of the antibiotic that she was first allergic to.....so, we could run into the same problem again. However, I am optimistic this one will work. Addison has been a trooper through this whole thing and we hope that it will come to an end soon.

Oh, the little things......our little girl is growing up

Addison amazes me and makes me smile every single day, she truly is a special girl. I cannot believe how much she has grown up, even in the last month. I remember when she could only say Mommy & Daddy (and not very well, I might add). Addison has so many words now, she says (and they are so clear): Mommy, Daddy, Papa, Mama (Grandma), Abbie, puppy, baby, monkey, mouse, bird, kitty cat, star, moon, cheese, milk, bottle, shoes, up, down, night night, Auntie, Uncle, ball, bubble, and I am sure there are so many more I am forgetting. No only does she have a great vocabulary, but when she looks and points and something, Brian and I tell her what it is and she immediately repeats it!

Addison pays very close attention to what Brian and I do & our routines. Before we leave the house we give Abbie a few treats and put her in her crate. Well, Addison picked up on that and has followed suit. When we are ready to go, Addison goes around the house calling "Abbie, Abbie" or "Puppy, Puppy", grabs a few treats from either Brian or I, feeds them to Abbie and promptly runs over to the crate and ushers Abbie in....she hasn't quit figured out how to lock the crate yet but I am sure she'll have that mastered before too long.

We think Addison is going to be a great big sister and a great helper to mommy when the baby arrives, as Addison has proved to be very motherly lately. It was so funny, when we were in Portland and went to the beach with our friends, Addison kept trailing behind Hazel (who is only 1 month younger than Addison) and constantly saying "baby" and trying to feed Hazel her bottle, or give Hazel her pacifier. Lately, Addison carries her baby around and is always putting her "to bed" by putting her under the blanket and patting her. She is also always trying to feed her baby and stuffed animals from her sippy cup.

Just last week, I decided that I should check and see if Addison was getting anymore teeth, since she has been having a really runny nose. To my surprise, when I stuck my finger in her mouth, she has 4 molers that have mostly come in. Poor girl, when her teeth come in they decide to come in all at once! Speaking of teeth, Addison has this cute little thing that she does when you tell her to "show me your smile", she gives you the biggest, cutest, teethy grin that shows off her dimple! What a cutie :)

Garage Sale = $$$

After going through and deciding what to pack and what to ditch, we decided to have a garage sale to rid ourselves of the items we were ditching and see if we couldn't make some extra make some extra $$$. Being that Brian and I have never had a garage sale, nor do we really go to garage sales, we weren't really sure how well we would do, or if it would be worth the effort. Not to mention, we didn't feel like we had enough stuff to warrant having a garage sale and last but not least we weren't sure if we were ready to brave the HOT Texas heat! Regardless, we combined our stuff with Brian's parents and had a 2 family garage sale at our house. The garage sale was planned for Saturday and Sunday 10AM-2PM. We woke up early on Saturday morning and started placing the garage sale signs up and thought we would grab some breakfast before the sale and finish getting things priced. Well, who knew that as we started placing the signs signs closer to our house (that no one even bothered to read, they just follow the arrows) people would start tailing us and rolling down their windows and asking "where is the sale?". I responded "it doesn't start until 10AM". Needless to say, we didn't get to grab breakfast. The garage sale that was supposed to start at 10AM actually started at at 9AM. People were sitting in front of our house when we arrived home, the second we opened the garage door people were jumping out of their car ready to sift through our "seconds". We were very pleased with the turn out of the garage sale. We ended up starting an hour early, closing down an hour early and didn't even have the garage sale on Sunday, which was good, because I am not sure I could have handled another afternoon in the hot, muggy garage! We made over $900....can you believe it?! Well, we did have some furniture that we sold, so that helped with the profit, but I never imagined doing that well at a garage sale that I didn't think we had much stuff to sell. Now I am asking myself "why didn't we have a garage sale when we moved from Oregon?!". I am pleased with our success and even more thrilled to have all of that stuff off our hands for the move.

Big News for the Burleigh Family

We have lots of things going on right now, but I will make an official announcement. Brian and I have decided that we are going to move back home to Oregon. We have put our house in Texas up for sale & are optimistic that it will sell fairly quickly, as the market in Texas is still strong. Our original plan was for myself and Addison to come back to 7/21 to start my job back at Sunnybrook Ambulatory Surgery Center @ Kaiser Sunnyside Campus & Brian was going to stay in Texas until the house was sold. However, plans have changed. We are all going to be back by 7/21 so that we can both start our jobs at Kaiser. Brian will be working back at Sunnyside, in the main Operating Room. This may present a challenge, as we don't exactly have a place to stay until our house in Texas sells, but we again are being optimistic and hope that we won't have to worry about that or at least not for long.

As for some more big news! We are expecting, Addison will be a big sister! I am due 2/2/09 and should find out what we are having in September or October. We are all very excited & especially excited that we will be back in Oregon for our new arrival. We had a great experience at Kaiser with Addison and hope to do the same with this one, especially since there is a new Labor & Delivery department!

I will use this blog to keep you all updated with all of the new happenings. Sorry it has been so long since my last post. I have been having problems with the pictures and will add more to the past posts soon!

Oregon Trip

The Burleigh family returned to Oregon for a week long visit to see family and friends. We arrived June 4th and the weather was not what we had anticipated, so needless to say, we were a bit under dressed. Our itinerary was as follows:

Wednesday, June 4th: Arrive in Oregon, visit Sarah (Linday's sister), meet up with former Kaiser co-workers at Gustav's.

Thursday, June 5th: Visit Seaside, buy more warm clothes, thoroughly clean the carseat (as Addison threw up all over it on the way to the beach), meet up with Jeff, Jessie, & Hazel for the night. Addison and Hazel had a great time playing!

Friday, June 6th: Drive back to Portland from the beach. Visit Deb & Gayle, Addison's favorite babysitters. Attend Mat & Shannon's wedding. Addison spent the evening with Grandma Vicki. Brian was a bit under the weather due to some bad shrimp he ate the night before.

Saturday, June 7th: Lunch with Lindsay's dad & go out with some friends to Old Chicago.

Sunday, June 8th: Breakfast with Lindsay's mom. Trenton's 1st birthday BBQ. Dinner with Jeff, Jessie, & Hazel. Addison was tuckered out from playing with all of the kiddos!

Monday, June 9th: Lunch at Lindsay's Grandma Shari. Addison had lots of fun playing with all of the stuffed toys! Evening plans included meeting up with Beau, Tara, Janice and Terry at Beau & Tara's new house.

Tuesday, June 10th: Pack up and go back home :(

Memorial Day Weekend

We enjoyed a nice long Memorial Day weekend with the Burleigh family. Brian's brother Brandon arrived on Friday from Oregon with his son Cooper (4 months) and fiancee Shelby. Our weekend was filled with eating out, swimming, and playing board games and the Wii. Addison didn't remember Uncle Brandon, which was kind of sad, but she enjoyed playing with baby Cooper.
