Addison's First Camping Trip

The Burleigh family went camping the weekend before last, this would be the first camping trip for both Addison and our beagle Abbie. We joined our friends David and Dawn, as well as Brian's parents. Brian and I were able to get off work early on Friday and drive up to Clear Lake (a few miles past Government Camp, on Mt. Hood). We made it up to the campsite just before dark, we were able to see an amazing sunset down by the lake. We started the evening with dinner that Jeff and David cooked up and later Addison got to enjoy her first Smores that Dawn made. It was so funny, Addison just loved the marshmallow goo.

Saturday we were ready for the hot weather, so we got up early, had some breakfast and Brian and David went out on the lake in Jeff and Cheryl's kayaks to go fishing. Meanwhile, the rest of us set up camp on the lake shore. Addison had tons of fun playing with her water toys that Grandma Cheryl got her! The guys returned after a few hours with only one fish that David had caught. Addison thought it was lots of fun to play with the slimey dead fish and the worms that they used as bait....yuck! Next Dawn and I were able to take the kayas out, this was my first time in a kayak. I had lots of fun and can't wait to do it again! We finished off the evening with dinner, smores and cards.

Sunday morning it was time to pack up and head back home. We were all tired and ready for a shower! After getting the cars all loaded we headed down the mountain and stopped by Dairy Queen for some ice cream. Although we got home, it was so nice to get unpacked and showered.

I will post pictures soon. It is so annoying not having internet at home, so I have to wait for the weekend to go to my mom's house to upload pics.

The milestones of potty training.

It is so funny how you get all excited about potty training when you are a parent. We had started potty training Addison several months ago, but it seemed like everything we were ready to sit down and get down to business she was either sick, teething, moving, or something that would make for a bad potty training experience. Well, we are finally cracking down on it and things seem to be going well. I have been working with Addison when I get off work and on my days off. So far was have had a few pees and last night was her first "number 2" in the potty! She was a bit scared at first, but after we talked her through it she did okay. Well, after her "number 2" last night, she kept running to the potty and saying "poopy" and sitting on the seat, getting up and looking to see if she did anything. I think that after she could really see the evidence in the potty last night, it really clicked and we are on the right track!

It's all fun and games until someone gets bit on the cheek....

Last Friday we took Addison to The Children's Museum for a night of fun on free admission night. A friend of ours told us about it and was going to join us with their daughter as well. Addison was having a great time playing in the water exhibit and she really enjoyed playing with the musical instruments. We didn't even get to see half of the exhibits when we opted to go to the train exhibit. Addison spotted the steering wheel on the train and thought it looked like fun to play with. Well, there were about 3 other children playing with it, but Addison ran up there as well. She only put her hand on the steering wheel when this boy (who appeared to be about 4 years old) pinned her against the wall and bit her cheek. Brian and I were mortified, neither one of us could climb in the train fast enough to prevent it when we could see what we was about to do. Poor Addison had an instant bruise and was even bleeding!

As we are looking around, this kid is just being a terror and his mother is not even near by. We proceeded to call out "does anyone know who this child is?" and she walked over as if it was no big deal. I proceed to inform her that her child bit my daughter and drew blood!!! She didn't even apologize, she mearly states "he just started going to daycare, they must be biting him at daycare". Then she just let it go. I am sorry, but if your kid can't play nice, he shouldn't play at all. If it were Addison, she would have been in the car on her way home for the behavior. Well, she didn't punish him in the least.

I proceeded to go to the front counter and inform them that this little boy is biting other kids. They went and talked to the mom and all she said was "he only bit ONE kid". Isn't that ONE kid TOO MANY?! I mean really! They asked her to leave. It was near closing, so I am not sure that did much to teach either the mom or child a lesson.

Lesson learned: Do not go to The Children's Museum on free admission night. All of the freaks bring their kids out and they have no manners or morals!!!

We are home....in Oregon that is :)

Sorry it has been so long since I have posted. We only have internet at work, so I have to catch a decent break to update the blog.

We have made it to Oregon and have been here for about 2 weeks now. Brian and I had a decent trip back and Addison was great on the long ride. It was a 2300 mile trip, as we took a 300 mile detour and got to check out The Grande Canyon (pictures to come soon...when I get them downloaded and the internet hooked up). It was amazing! We wished that we could have spent more time there, but with a little one and a dog it just wasn't in the cards for us. We took a total of 3 1/2 days to get to Oregon and only had a few glitches....one of them being when Brian locked the keys in the moving truck with the dog inside while we were stopped just outside of Mountain Home, Idaho to refuel. It turned out well, we were able to get a towing company to get the keys after only about 45 minutes of panicing (on our part). Overall, we are just glad that we made it to Oregon safely.

We arrived on Saturday afternoon, got unloaded and went back to work at Kaiser on Monday. Brian is back in the main operating room and I went back to the ambulatory surgery center. We are both very happy to be back! It is great to be able to jump right back in and feel as though we have only been on vacation.

Addison is back with the babysitter she had when I when back to work right after she was born. She seems to be having a great time and really enjoys all of the time the spend outside, weather permitting.

Pregnant Cravings

Okay, so this whole craving this is new to me. When I was pregnant with Addison I didn't have anything that I just had to have or anything crazy like that. Well, with this one, I don't know what is up, but if it were up to me I would have smoothies for breakfast, lunch, and dinner! I am especially craving Jamba Juice. I am not sure if it is a blessing or just torture that there is not one real close by, in fact the closest one is 9.3 miles away (to be exact!) :( If there was one much closer, I would seriously consider having it for breakfast, lunch, and dinner....now wouldn't that hurt the pocket book?!

Anyway, this whole craving started about 3 weeks ago when I had to take Addison to the Dr. & thought "MMMMmmmm, Jamba Juice sounds really good....it is kind of on the way, well, since I am already out that direction I will stop and get one after her appt." Well, little did I know, after this Dr. appt I was going to have to pick up antibiotics for her ear infection, and our pharmacy is not exactly in the Jamba Juice direction. So, I decided I would put off my craving for another day. Then I remembered that there was a place called Smoothie Cafe just down the street from my house. I was a bit skeptical, being that I had never been there and for those of you who have ever had a craving, you know what it is like to be let down when you get something subpar. So, I decided to bite the bullet and try it, I mean can you really screw up a smoothie?! It didn't even come to that, because I pulled up in front of Smoothie Cafe at 3:15PM on a Wednesday afternoon and it was closed! What kind of smoothie place is only open from 12PM-3PM on a Wednesday?! Needless to say, I was bummed out and decided to just go home sans smoothie. Later that evening on Brian's way home from work I asked him if he would stop by Sonic and get me a smoothie. I had never had one from there, but thought "they have so many good drinks, I am sure their smoothies are good too". Well, I was wrong! It just wasn't the same as a Jamba Juice. Brian came home with a Pina Colada smoothie (not my favorite at all, more his favorite) that was a huge let down.

Well, I finally got my Jamba Juice that Saturday when we were really out that direction. It was fabulous! So, here I am 2 weeks later and can only think....Berry Fulfilling smoothie from Jamba Juice. This is just nuts! I have already mapped out where the closest Jamba Juice is when I get back home to Troutdale. I know, crazy, huh?! But you will know I have a serious problem if I am asking Brian on the road trip to search on his navigation for the nearest Jamba Juice....hehe!

Progress....

Brian and I have made a lot of progress on our packing to get ready for our move. This weekend we took everything off the walls and patched up all of the holes. I must say, it is a bit depressing to have bare walls again. We managed to pack almost everything but a few odds and ends, including our clothes. So, this coming Saturday morning we pick up the moving truck and get everything loaded. Our last days of work are Monday night for me and Tuesday for Brian. We hope to get a good night's rest and leave at 3AM Wednesday morning. We are hoping to get a lot of hours in while Addison is asleep on Wednesday and hope to knock out a few states before our first stop. We are making about a 300 mile detour to go see the Grand Canyon! Brian and I are excited to take pictures of nature's beauty :) After Brian's parents took this road trip to Oregon last week and stopped by the Grand Canyon, we decided it was something we couldn't miss. Then we'll come up through Utah, Idaho & into Oregon for our last leg. Wish us luck!

A First Look at the New Baby!

We had our first ultrasound of the new baby on Friday, which means baby's first picture! We were very excited! On the screen it was easier to see, but in the picture it is virtually impossible to detect the difference between baby and yolk sac.....I guess you'll just have to use your imagination :) We were able to see baby's little heart beating away, it was amazing! After the Dr. took a look and said that everything looks great with baby, she decided to change my due date based on baby's measurements. So, my new due date is February 10th. Who knows, this could change again when they do the 20 week ultrasound. In other words, I don't have my heart set on any dates yet. My next appointment is July 15th, so I am able to squeeze in an appointment right before we go back to Oregon then I will follow up with Kaiser from there.
